Exterior House Colors You Should Avoid Using At All Costs
Whether it is a possible buyer or only a friend coming for dinner, one of the first impressions they will get of your home is its exterior appearance or curb appeal. A home that has not been painted for a while will quickly become outdated and unkempt. However, with a fresh coat of exterior house paint, you can turn the exterior from something bland to beautiful. This may sound easy enough, however, the hardest part will be deciding what color to paint your home with. With hundreds of shades available, most people end up painting the exterior of their property the wrong one, which can quickly turn their home makeover into a total disaster.
One of the worst home exterior paint colors is brown
One of the worst colors to paint the exterior of your home is brown. A recent study by Zillow found that homes that were painted in either brown, taupe, or tan actually sold for about $1,970 less than homes that had a white exterior.
Also, dark colors such as black and navy blue should be avoided at all costs, more so when you live in a warm climate and your home receives a lot of sun exposure. Dark paint not only makes a home hotter but will fade over time due to exposure to UV rays. And, if that is not enough, dark colors will highlight any imperfections that your home has too.
Along with these colors, you should never paint your home a color that has the potential to clash with your neighbors. While it is acceptable to want to stand out, you need to make sure that you are not using a color that doesn’t compliment your neighborhood’s aesthetic. In fact, many neighborhoods that have homeowners associations provide a selection of exterior paint colors that residents must choose from, so bear this in mind also.
